There are three chinchilla units in use, all are of wooden construction, two having concrete floors the other wooden. All the units have good ventilation; the unit which houses stock for showing has windows open except in exceptionally harsh conditions. We believe that fresh clean air is essential for the well being of the animals. A large extractor fan is used in the breeding unit to change the air volume ten times in an hour. All the units have cages arranged along the walls of the units spaced off the walls by 15cm to allow air to flow around. The central area between the rows is wide enough for general husbandry duties to be carried out readily. Automatic watering systems are used with a basic diet of a balanced pellet, fed as required in order to minimise wastage, and regular supplies of good quality hay.
